There was a time when a carob could be a little celebration.
They called it 'the chocolate of the poor': a sweet, simple taste,
which for a child could mean much more than we can imagine today.
The basket you see in the video belonged to my great-grandfather Basilio.
In the 1930s, he used it to sell carobs too.
Almost a hundred years later, those carobs are back in the same basket.
In my book I wrote: 'Abundance takes away the pleasure of waiting.'
Today we can have almost anything, instantly. Maybe, though, we've lost a bit of the joy of desiring simple things.
Because that child certainly had much less than we do.
But that little sweetness could still bring him a big smile.
Today it's the carob, our Perfect Fruit of the Day.
